Mansfield vs Forest Green match preview

Forest Green have lost 2, won 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 games and Mansfield have lost 2, drawn 2 and won 1 of their last 5 league games. The reverse fixture ended 2-1 to Mansfield with 1 Mansfield corner, 9 Forest Green corners, 1 Mansfield yellow card and 2 Forest Green yellow cards.

Mansfield have conceded in 11 of their last 12 league games and have conceded at least 1 goal in all of their last 6 league games. Forest Green have conceded in all of their last 5 league games so both sides have not been very solid at the back in recent games.

Mansfield have scored in 26 of their 36 league games this season (72.22% of their games) but Mansfield have struggled for goals in recent games and have failed to score in 5 of their last 9 league games. Forest Green have scored in 30 of their 35 league games this season (85.71% of their games) and in their last 10 games Forest Green have scored at least 1 goal in 8 of those games and they scored 2 or more goals in 7 of those games. The 2 meetings between these sides last season finished 2-2 and 4-3 to Forest Green, then the meeting earlier this season ended 2-1 to Mansfield. So, it is a fixture that has produced goals in the past.

Goals is definitely an angle to have a bet in this game, though both teams to score looks risky as on recent form you have to have serious doubts about will Mansfield score. For that reason, if playing goals, we recommend to stick to over 1.5 match goals as part of an acca or multiple. Forest Green have conceded in 8 of their last 10 league games and they conceded an average of 1.50 goals per game in those 10 games. So, we believe there is a very high chance of over 1.5 goals in this game. Forest Green have been in good scoring form themselves and it would be no surprise if they scored 2 goals on their own, though hopefully Mansfield will pitch in with a goal. Whilst its risky a case can be made for both teams to score being a good bet, just we feel that Mansfield’s recent goals scoring form, or lack of goals scoring form means that the smart thing to do is to take a hit on the odds and go for the safer option.

Mansfield have taken 3 or more corners in 31 of their 36 league games played this season (86.11% of their games) and Forest Green have taken at least 3 corners in 29 of their 35 league games played this season (82.85% of their games). Even with pretty strong stats backing up corners, this is a game where we are not going to be on corners. Both teams have hit a slump in recent games and seen their corner averages drop. Mansfield average just 3.40 corners per game in their last 5 games, when on the season as a whole they average over 5 corners per game. Forest Green only average 3.25 corners per game in their last 4 games when on the season as a whole they average 4.91 corners per game. Given that it’s both teams who have struggled in recent games we feel it’s not smart to back corners in this game.

Mansfield have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 36 league games played this season (77.77% of their games) & Forest Green have been given at least 1 card in 31 of their 35 league games played this season (88.57% of their games). Forest Green have been given at least 20 booking points in 12 of their last 13 league games. Forest Green’s opponents have been given at least 1 card in all of the last 13 Forest Green league games and their opponents average 1.76 yellow cards per game in those games. Also 12 of the last 13 Forest Green league games have had at least 30 booking points. Mansfield have been given at least 1 card in 8 of their last 10 league games and they were given 2 cards or more in 5 of those 10 league games. Mansfield’s opponents have been given at least 1 card in 6 of the last 8 Mansfield league games, and their opponents were given 2 cards or more in 4 of those 8 games. So, on current form corners don’t look a bad bet, though we don’t feel this is a leg where you want to push your luck too much. So, we would stick to 10+ booking points each team or 30+ match booking points as the safest bets.

So, we have 2 potential bets in this game with goals and cards, though we both angles we feel it is better to take the safer option, rather than trying to boost the odds by increasing the risk. So over 1.5 goals look a good bet and with cards we would recommend either both teams to pick up at least 1 card or the game to have 3 or more cards total, we feel either if these bets will be good legs to an acca or multiple.

Carlisle vs Leyton Orient match preview

Carlisle have lost 2, drawn 2 and won 1 of their last 5 games and Leyton Orient have drawn 2, won 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games. This is the first meeting between these sides this season.

Carlisle games recently have featured allot of goals. Both teams have scored in all of the last 9 Carlisle league games, and those 9 games have seen 30 goals (12 scored by Carlisle, 18 scored by their opponents). The issue is Leyton Orient have been the completely opposite in recent games. Leyton Orient have failed to score in 7 of their last 12 league games and they’ve scored an average of just 0.41 goals per game in those 12 games. Leyton Orient have also kept 3 clean sheets in their last 5 league games and 8 clean sheets in their last 15 league games, conceding an average of just 0.86 goals per game in those 15 games. So, whilst it would be no surprise if this game finishes with at least 3 goals, we cannot recommend it as a good bet on current form when 8 of the last 14 Leyton Orient league games have ended with no goals or just 1 goal.

Carlisle have had at least 3 corners in 31 of their 33 league games this season and have also given away 3 or more corners in 31 of their 33 league games (93.93% of their games). Leyton Orient have taken 3 or more corners in 32 of their 35 league games this season (91.42% of their games) and Leyton Orient have given away at least 3 corners in 27 of their 35 league games played this season (77.14% of their games).

Carlisle have had at least 3 corners in all of their last 8 league games and they average 5.75 corners per game in those 8 games. Carlisle have given away at least 3 corners in all of their last 16 league games, and they have given away an average of 6.50 corners per game in those 16 games. Leyton Orient have had at least 3 corners in all of their last 8 league games and they average 5.37 corners per game in those 8 games. Leyton Orient have given away less than 3 corners in 4 of their last 7 games, though they still giveaway an average of 3.14 corners a game in those 7 games and with the fact that Carlisle average 5.96 corners per game this season, we feel this is a very strong angle on this game.

So, it looks highly likely that both teams will take at least 3 corners each.

Carlisle have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 33 league games played this season (81.81% of their games) and Leyton Orient have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 35 league games played this season (80% of their games). In their last 4 games Leyton Orient have been given 13 yellow cards (an average of 3.25 yellow cards per game). Carlisle have been given 10 yellow cards in their last 5 games (an average of 2 yellow cards per game). Carlisle average 1.75 yellow cards per game this season and Carlisle’s opponents average 1.51 yellow cards per game. Leyton Orient average 2.08 yellow cards per game this season and their opponents average 1.71 yellow cards per game this season.

So, the clean and obvious bet here is both teams to have at least 3 corners and both teams to get at least 1 played carded. Goals wouldn’t be a surprise but are just too risky on Leyton Orient’s current form to back with confidence.

Barrow vs Grimsby

Barrow vs Grimsby match preview

Grimsby have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 games whilst Barrow have won 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. Grimsby won the reverse fixture 1-0 with 6 Barrow corners, 2 Grimsby corners, and 2 yellow cards for each team. Barrow have found some form out of nowhere and with games in hand in teams above them a win here will give their chances of survival a huge boost. Grimsby look down out and being 10 points adrift from safety it would be the one of the greatest of great escapes if they manage to stay up.

I expect both teams to go for a win as Grimsby need a win, a draw does nothing for them and Barrow won get many easier chances to pick up 3 points than this. Barrow have scored 8 goals in their last 4 games and have also kept 3 clean sheets in those 4 games. Grimsby have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 3 games though have still conceded in 9 of their last 11 games if you look back a little bit further. Grimsby have failed to score in 8 of their last 13 games. In their last 23 games Grimsby have only scored more than 1 goal once and that was in their last game where they scored 2 goals but still didn’t win. Despite Grimsby winning the last meeting we do think Barrow should be winning this game. Though at around evens it is not exactly an attractive proposition to be backing a team who have only won 10 games all season to get the win, no matter who they are playing. The safest option would be to use Barrow/draw double chance as a leg of an acca or multiple.

Grimsby have only won 6 games all season and have only won 1 of their last 17 league games. With the form Barrow are in we really struggle to see how Grimsby will go away and win. Barrow have found goal scoring form of late and in this 4-game winning streak they even beat league leaders Cheltenham by 2 goals to nil, so the truth of it is that even scoring just 1 goal is more than likely going to be enough for Barrow to come away not having lost. So, whilst we expect Barrow to win, they are still not a team we would have 100% faith in and therefore feel the safest option may be to go double chance, Barrow or draw (Barrow not to lose)

On current form you don’t want to go anywhere near corners in this game. Grimsby average just 3.11 corners a game in their last 9 league games and Barrow have ended the game with no corners in 2 of their last 5 league games.

Barrow have been given at least 1 card in 33 of their 34 league games this season (97.05% of their games) and Grimsby have been given at least 1 card in 31 of their 35 league games played this season (88.57% of their games)

Though bookings are not as much a banker as the stats make it seem. 6 of the last 10 Grimsby games have finished with under 30 match booking points and 4 of the last 7 Barrow league games have finished with under 30 match booking points. So, whilst cards would be no surprise in a game like this, we can’t back it with confidence on current form. Also, this is sure to be a very intense game with 2 teams both fighting for their lives in the football leagues. So, the referee may let some tackles go as they do t want to risk sparking the game or setting something off. So, for that reason we will leave bookings in this one.

So, we are leaving corners and cards alone, with the most obvious bet being Barrow to bet, though Barrow/Draw double chance is a very strong bet as we struggle to see Grimsby winning this one.

Colchester vs Tranmere match preview

Colchester have lost 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 games and Tranmere have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. This is the first meeting between the sides this season.

Tranmere have scored in 11 of their last 14 league games and they scored 2 or more goals in 9 of those 14 games, though Tranmere have failed to score in 2 of their last 4 league games. Tranmere have conceded at least 1 goal in 10 of their last 15 league games, but they have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 5 league games. Colchester have not scored a single goal in any of their last 5 league games, and they have failed to score in 13 of their last 17 league games.

Many people will want to back Tranmere to win this one and it’s easy to understand why as the fact you can back them at odds against does seem a bit of a gift. Though there is a very strong reason to take Tranmere/draw double chance.

Tranmere have only lost 2 of their last 16 league games and Colchester have only won 1 of their last 20 league games. Add in the fact Colchester have been dreadful in front of goal all season but even more so in recent games and it looks like 1 goal for Tranmere will be enough to make sure they don’t lose. So, whilst Tranmere to win looks a good bet, we feel that Tranmere not to lose looks so strong that we have to take advantage of that opportunity in our bets.

Colchester have taken at least 3 corners in 30 of their 36 league games this season (83.33% of their games) and Tranmere have taken at least 3 corners in 29 of their 35 league games played this season (82.85% of their games). Colchester have taken 3 or more corners in all of their last 20 league games, and they average 4.95 corners per game in those 20 games. Tranmere have taken at least 3 corners in 17 of their last 19 league games and they average 5.73 corners a game in those 19 games, though the 1 game where Tranmere failed to have 3 or more corners both came in their last 6 games. So, it looks likely that both teams will take at least 3 corners.

Colchester have been given at least 1 card in 32 of their 36 league games played this season (88.88% of their games). Tranmere have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 35 league games played this season (80% of their games). Tranmere have been given at least 1 card in 15 of their last 16 league games and Colchester have been given at least 1 card in 12 of their last 15 league games. So, whilst it looks likely both teams will pick up a card, this is not a game where we will play bookings as 6 of the last 11 Colchester league games have finished with under 30 booking points and 6 of the last 9 Tranmere league games have finished with under 30 match booking points.

So, we expect Tranmere to win and if you are backing them you will be very happy with the price you are getting. Though Tranmere not to lose looks to be the shrewd play as we feel very strongly that just scoring 1 goal will be enough for Tranmere to get something from the game. Corners also look a good bet with it seeming highly likely that both teams will take at least 3 corners.

Oldham vs Exeter

Oldham vs Exeter match preview

Oldham have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 games and Exeter have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 games. Oldham won the reverse fixture 2-1, with 3 Oldham corners, 8 Exeter corners and 2 yellow cards for each team. Oldham have failed to score in 3 of their last 5 games and they have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 4 games, though Oldham have still conceded in 12 of their last 14 games. Exeter have failed to score in 3 of their last 6 games and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 5 games.

Goals wouldn’t be a surprise but both teams have been quite inconsistent at both ends of the field in recent games, so it looks smart to avoid goals in this one.

Oldham have taken at least 3 corners in 34 of their 36 league games this season (94.44% of their games) and they average 5.13 corners per game this season. Exeter have taken at least 3 corners in 29 of their 34 league games this season (85.29% of their games) and they average 6 corners per game this season. The 2 games where Oldham failed to have 3 corners have both come recently, though both games ended up being very boring 0-0 draws, where 1 game had 5 corners and the other game had just 1, so I am happy to excuse those games and not hold it against Oldham.

So, it looks highly likely that both teams will have at least 3 corners in this one.

Bookings is an angle to avoid in this game. Exeter have finished with no cards in 3 of their last 4 games and they only average 0.64 yellow cards per game in their last 14 league games. Oldham have finished with no cards in 3 of their last 5 league games. So, it’s impossible to back any cards bet with much confidence right now.

So, the play here is both teams to have 3 or more corners which looks very strong.

Scunthorpe vs Bradford match preview

Scunthorpe have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 games and Bradford have drawn 2, lost 2 and win 1 of their last 5 games. This is the first meeting between these sides this season.

Bradford failed to score in their last game and that was the first time they have failed to score in their last 12 league games. Bradford have also been very inconsistent at the back, as they have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 17 games, they conceded 14 goals in the other 9 games in those 17. Scunthorpe have been inconsistent in front of goals this season. In their last 8 league games Scunthorpe average just 0.62 goals per games, though if you add in the 4 games before that and look at their last 12 games their goals scored average nearly doubles up to 1.16 goals per games. Scunthorpe have conceded in 8 of their last 9 games and they have conceded at least 1 goal in 17 of their last 21 league games.

Scunthorpe are yet to convince me defensively as of the 4 clean sheets they have kept in their last 21 league games, 3 have come against teams who are in a relegation battle and who struggle to score goals in most games. Bradford found goals hard to come by in the first half of the season though they have scored at least 1 goal in 16 of their last 18 league games and they scored 2 or more goals in 7 of those games. Whilst goals are not a bet, I would want to get heavily stuck into in this game, I do think there is a very good chance that Bradford will score at least 1 goal.

Corners look too risky to back in this one. Scunthorpe have had under 3 corners in 3 of their last 5 games and Bradford only average 3.5 corners a game in their last 10 games. So, on current form both teams are too low and it’s not an angle that we are going to play.

Bradford have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 34 league games this season (79.41% of their games) and Scunthorpe have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 35 league games this season (77.14% of their games). Bradford have been given at least 1 card in all of their last 11 league games and Bradford opponents have been given at least 1 card in 12 of the last 13 Bradford league games. Scunthorpe have been given no cards in 3 of their last 7 games, though they were given 7 yellow cards in the other 4 games. Scunthorpe’s opponents have been given at least 1 card in 11 of their last 13 league games, and theor opponents average 2.07 yellow cards per game in the last 13 Scunthorpe league games.

So, there is no standout bet in this game. I think Bradford to score at least 1 goal is a good bet and on current form it would be no surprise to see a few cards. Though it’s not a game that we are going to include in our bets.

Southend vs Walsall match preview

Walsall have lost 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 games and Southend have drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 games. Southend won 1-0 in the reverse fixture with 3 Southend corners, 6 Walsall corners, 1 Southend yellow card and 1 Walsall red card. Southend have failed to score in 5 of their last 6 games and Walsall have failed to score in 4 of their last 7 games.

With 2 teams both at the bottom of the table, who struggle to score goals and neither of them are in any kind of form, it’s no surprise that the end result and number of goals are bets we won’t even look twice at.

Walsall average just 3 corners a game in their last 5 league games and Southend average just 2 corners a game in their last 5 league games. So, there is nothing in corners for us either.

The issue with goals and corners in a game like this is that these are 2 teams who are both used to playing on the back foot, with less territory and possession. So, in a game like this they will have more possession, opportunities and territory than normal as they are taking on another team who is at the bottom of the table and struggling. This means they should have more attacking opportunities which lead to corners and goals, than they would have when they play the majority of other teams in the league.

For that reason and the fact that there is no standout bet from the cards, we are happy to watch this game from the side lines and not play anything.
